FOXBOROUGH, Mass. \u2013 Two days of joint practices start Wednesday against the defending AFC Champion Patriots and it will be a great opportunity for the Eagles to gear up for the stretch run of the preseason. Very quickly, this is going to be over \u2013 joint practices, preseason game No. 2 at New England on Saturday, the Public Practice at Lincoln Financial Field<\/a> next Tuesday, and then the preseason finale a week from Friday against Cincinnati.<\/p>\n

Two days after that, the Eagles and the entire league must reduce their roster to the NFL-mandated 53 players by 6 PM. That will mark the first version of the 53-man roster, and you can be sure there will be changes prior to the beginning of the regular season on September 13 against Washington at Lincoln Financial Field.<\/p>\n

Here are some notes ahead of these joint workouts against New England …<\/p>\n

1. Sean Mannion looking forward to the challenge<\/p>\n

The coaching staff is looking for the same progression in these practices as they do every day at the Jefferson Health Training Complex: Improve every day. It is expected that the projected starters will see a lot of action in these practices after not playing Saturday in the preseason opener in Baltimore.<\/p>\n

“The starters, they didn’t get the work in the preseason (game) one,” Offensive Coordinator Sean Mannion said. “It’s an opportunity for us to see them execute, get aligned, play with great fundamentals. It’ll be a good opportunity for us to see them think on their feet, too. There could be some looks that you see in joint practice that are unscouted, but it’s a great opportunity to see us kind of problem-solve as an offense, to see our players play with great football intelligence, react to maybe an unscouted look, see different fronts, different personnel for our offensive linemen to block a different rusher, maybe as a different arsenal move.<\/p>\n

“There’s a lot of advantages to the joint practice for the starters, especially (since) they didn’t get that live action last week.”<\/p>\n

From the players’ standpoint, these practices mean …<\/p>\n

This isn’t anything new for the Eagles, right? They have done joint practices for years and years and the benefits are obvious: New teams, new looks, new players.<\/p>\n

“It’s just nice not going against your own team every single day. It’s like a breath of fresh air going against another team and working on your stuff,” center Cam Jurgens said. “It’s always fun when you’re going away with the team for a week, kind of bonding, coming together as a team. That’s the best part.
