sentenced to pay $30,471. 80 in restitution for depositing a stolen tax return check, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Andre Pitts, 21, also faces two years of probation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/pittsburgh-man-pleads-guilty-depositing-fake-us-treasury-check-stealing-government-money\/SH4R7WXHLNBQVKJVLF7CQCLOYA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wpxi.com\/news\/local\/pittsburgh-man-pleads-guilty-depositing-fake-us-treasury-check-stealing-government-money\/SH4R7WXHLNBQVKJVLF7CQCLOYA\/\">after being convicted<\/a> of uttering counterfeit obligations or securities and theft of government property. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Prosecutors allege Pitts deposited an altered U.S. Treasury check for $62,211 on June 12, 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The check had been issued to another person for their income tax return, but had reportedly been changed to have Pitts\u2019 information in the payee section and memo line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Soon afterward, Pitts withdrew $500 in cash and had a $25,000 cashier\u2019s check issued to himself, prosecutors say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Download the
