A suspect has been identified in a shooting at an after-hours lounge in Southwest Philadelphia that left an off-duty police officer dead<\/a>, police said. <\/p>\n

On Wednesday, police confirmed they had identified a suspect in the killing of off-duty officer Alhassane Barry.<\/p>\n

The person’s name is being withheld because charges have not been filed, according to police. <\/p>\n

Police added they are in contact with the suspect’s attorney and that the investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n

Barry, 29, was killed in a shooting that happened just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. 2026 at an after-hours lounge located near the intersection of 73rd Street and Elmwood Avenue.<\/p>\n

In that incident, officials said, Barry was one of two men shot multiple times. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n

A 35-year-old man was also shot multiple times and was treated at a nearby hospital. <\/p>\n

Surveillance video obtained by NBC10 showed a marked Philadelphia police vehicle driving near the area around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Roughly 10 seconds later, someone is seen leaving the after-hours lounge before a fight breaks out.<\/p>\n

Shots are then fired and people are seen running from the area.<\/p>\n

Police said they recovered a gun and were reviewing surveillance video as part of their investigation. It was unclear whose gun investigators recovered.<\/p>\n

The photos were released after family, fellow officers and community members gathered to mourn Barry.<\/p>\n

The funeral for Barry was held on Monday at the Islamic Center of Philadelphia, a little more than a quarter-mile from where the shooting happened. A prayer service was scheduled to follow.<\/p>\n

The quick timeline between Barry’s death and funeral is rooted in Islamic teachings and emphasizes returning the body to the earth.<\/p>\n

The president of the Guinean Association of Delaware Valley spoke with NBC10 ahead of the services and said it was a sad day not only for Barry’s family, but for the entire community.<\/p>\n

After the funeral, Barry\u2019s family pleaded for an end to gun violence.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis gun violence. We want this to stop. They have to know, it\u2019s them dying too because they\u2019re killing each other. So, stop it please,\u201d Barry\u2019s mother, Aissatou Bah, said.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker also released a statement that expressed her remorse for the officer’s death and urged anyone with useful information to come forward in the investigation.<\/p>\n

“Any loss to gun violence significantly impacts us all.
