{"id":268948,"date":"2026-08-20T17:06:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T17:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/268948\/"},"modified":"2026-08-20T17:06:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T17:06:08","slug":"cessna-pilot-who-died-in-crash-with-pennsylvania-state-police-helicopter-was-emergency-room-doctor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/268948\/","title":{"rendered":"Cessna pilot who died in crash with Pennsylvania State Police helicopter was emergency room doctor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Listen to article \u2022\u00a00:00 min<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Authorities have identified the pilot of a small plane who died Wednesday after crashing into a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Paul Sokoloski, 57, of Hershey, died in the collision, said the <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/cumberland-county\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cumberland County<\/a> Coroner\u2019s Office Thursday morning. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Sokoloski was an emergency room doctor at <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/penn-state\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Penn State<\/a> Health, according to a health system website. Penn State Health wasn\u2019t immediately available for comment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Sokoloski worked as an emergency physician since 1999, according to his LinkedIn profile. Since 2022, he worked at three Penn State Health hospitals around Harrisburg and Lancaster. From 2017 through 2021, he was an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Penn State College of Medicine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The crash happened at Carlisle Airport, a small public-use airport about a half-hour southwest of Harrisburg. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Pennsylvania State Police were conducting a training exercise in a helicopter when it was struck by the Cessna 150 airplane piloted by Sokoloski, state police said Thursday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cThe Cessna 150 was attempting to land when, for an unknown reason, it veered off the north side of the runway and collided with the rear of the PSP helicopter, which was hovering in mid-air,\u201d state police said in a news release. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Sokoloski was the only person in the plane, state police said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Two state police troopers in the helicopter, Cpl. Bryce Corman and Trooper Jason Mills, were airlifted to Penn State Health Milton S.
