PITTSTON, Pa. \u2014 The rain may be falling in Luzerne County, but vendors spent the day getting ready for the Pittston Tomato Festival.<\/p>\n
“I’m hoping that it stops for the crowds for tonight,” said Denise Thomas.<\/p>\n
The 43rd annual festival kicks off Thursday afternoon, and vendors tell Newswatch 16 they’re excited to greet people.<\/p>\n

“It was just a family tradition that we had over the years, and coming here to see family, friends, and other vendors, we could never give it up,” said John Argenteo.<\/p>\n
Some vendors say the festival is a family tradition, and they are ready to serve rain or shine.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“My brother and my father started it, and my parents have passed away since, but my brother kept it going, and we’re still here! We have a good time; we do have a good time, although it’s hard work,” said Thomas.<\/p>\n
Plus, they were ready to warm people up with a hot meal on a rainy day.<\/p>\n
