A tornado was confirmed over Dover, Delaware, on Thursday evening. <\/p>\n

The Dover Police Department announced that the city was under a state of emergency<\/a> and residents are being urged to stay home. <\/p>\n

The part of the city that appears to be hit the hardest is Division Street\/Lockerman Street corridor, according to the police department. North Dupont Highway is also seeing extensive damage. <\/p>\n

Several intersections throughout the city are dealing with traffic lights that are not working and many in the city are without power, officials said. <\/p>\n

Police say to take these steps if you drive up to an intersection without working traffic lights:<\/p>\n

STOP and treat the intersection as a four-way stop.<\/p>\n

Slow down and proceed cautiously.<\/p>\n

Watch for other vehicles, pedestrians, and emergency responders.<\/p>\n

Never assume another driver is going to stop.<\/p>\n

Dover police also warn everyone to not go out to sightsee or check out the damage. <\/p>\n

Emergency crews are working to bring the power back and clean up the damage. <\/p>\n

“At this time, there appears to be no major damage at Dover Motor Speedway following reports of a nearby tornado. We\u2019re hopeful that everyone in our community is safe and that no one was injured. We\u2019ll continue to monitor the situation and plan to conduct a more thorough survey of the facility in the coming days,” a spokesperson for Dover Motor Speedway wrote in a statement. <\/p>\n

NBC10 crews in Dover saw a Days Inn where part of the roof looked like it had been ripped off. <\/p>\n
