Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Secretary Michael Carroll visited Erie on Thursday for a roundtable discussion with local elected officials and business leaders, providing updates on several major transportation projects impacting the region.<\/p>\n
During his visit, Carroll said the ongoing Bayfront Parkway Improvement Project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed before the end of the first week of October.<\/p>\n
The project includes upgrades designed to improve traffic flow and safety along the corridor, including intersection improvements at Holland Street, State Street, and the Sassafras Street Extension.<\/p>\n
Carroll also discussed plans for the major rehabilitation of the Interstate 79 dual bridges between the West 12th Street and West 26th Street exits. The bridge project is currently in the planning stages, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027.<\/p>\n
According to PennDOT, the bridge rehabilitation project could take up to three years to complete once work gets underway.<\/p>\n
