The Justice Bell Foundation will be presenting The Justice Bell and the Fight for the Vote: Pennsylvania Women and the Expansion of American Democracy, a traveling exhibition that explores the remarkable story of women’s suffrage in Pennsylvania and the enduring importance of civic participation.<\/p>\n
Through the story of the Justice Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell that became a powerful symbol of the women’s suffrage movement, the exhibition highlights how Pennsylvania women helped shape American democracy and secure the right to vote for future generations.<\/p>\n
In the early twentieth century, women across Pennsylvania organized, marched, and advocated for political equality. Erie played a leading role in this historic movement. During the city’s 1913 Perry Centennial celebration, local suffragists organized one of Pennsylvania’s earliest large-scale women’s suffrage parades. Just two years later, the Justice Bell traveled throughout Pennsylvania, rallying support for women’s voting rights and drawing attention to the growing movement for equality.<\/p>\n
Visitors to the exhibition will experience historic photographs, compelling stories of the women who fought for the vote, and opportunities to explore the broader impact of their efforts. The exhibit encourages guests to reflect not only on how voting rights were won, but also on why civic engagement remains essential today.<\/p>\n
The exhibition is presented by the Justice Bell Foundation and made possible through the generous support of the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority (ECGRA) and Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. The Erie County partner for the project is Erie Arts & Culture.<\/p>\n
