READING, Pa. – A 24-year-old Reading man was taken into custody Friday for possession of a stolen gun and $9,800 worth of drugs, police say.<\/p>\n
Diamonte Peair Sims, 24, of the 600 block of Brookline Plaza, is facing charges of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, receiving stolen property, and not being able to possess a firearm, authorities say.<\/p>\n
On Friday, detectives from the Berks County Drug Task Force served a search warrant as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation, police say.<\/p>\n
According to authorities, the investigation identified Sims as the suspect involved in the trafficking of controlled substances from the residence.<\/p>\n
During the search, police say they seized 2 guns, crack cocaine, unidentified pills believed to be controlled substances, and packaging materials commonly associated with the distribution of illegal narcotics.<\/p>\n
The estimated street value of the drugs seized is $9,800, officials say.<\/p>\n
After investigation, detectives found Sims is legally prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior qualifying conviction.<\/p>\n
According to detectives, one of the firearms recovered had previously been reported stolen from Reading.<\/p>\n
Police say Sims was taken into custody and transported to the Berks County Sheriff\u2019s Central Processing Center. He is awaiting his preliminary arraignment.<\/p>\n
