A well-known commercial real estate magnate was able to successfully talked down a man threatening to jump from Pittsburgh’s 40th Street Bridge. <\/p>\n
Herky Pollock says he was driving across the bridge Tuesday when he saw a man, a military veteran, on the edge.<\/p>\n
He stopped immediately and spent 3 and a half hours, alongside three Millvale police officers, working to build trust and talk the man down.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just very grateful that it ended the way it did because we kept saying to him \u2018there\u2019s 25 people on this bridge right now and you have a piece of our heart, each and every one of us and this can go one of two ways\u2019 and had it gone the other way, it would be a whole different outcome today,\u201d said Pollock.<\/p>\n
Pollock adds he told the man who was traveling through Pittsburgh that \u201cwhatever you\u2019re going through, no matter what it is, it\u2019s just temporary.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pollock tells the Big K Morning Show that he rarely drives across the 40th Street Bridge, but he believes that fate and divine intervention placed him there to help save that man’s life.<\/p>\n
Pollock says he knows what it\u2019s like to lose someone to suicide.<\/p>\n
He lost his stepfather over 30 years ago to suicide when he jumped from the Homestead Grays bridge.<\/p>\n
Pollock used that experience to help convince the man to come down and was saved.<\/p>\n
