BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Former President George W. Bush will visit Lehigh University this fall to open the university’s 2026-27 “Compelling Perspectives” series on Oct. 29.<\/p>\n
Hosted by University President Joseph J. Helble, the series aims to foster respectful discourse and encourage engagement across differing perspectives on issues of critical societal importance, school officials said.<\/p>\n
“Such dialogue serves as a powerful tool to foster social cohesion, build trust and strengthen community bonds,” the university stated on its website.<\/p>\n
Bush served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009.<\/p>\n
Highlights of his administration include the creation of the No Child Left Behind Act, Medicare modernization, the response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and global HIV\/AIDS and malaria initiatives.<\/p>\n
Following his tenure in office, he and former First Lady Laura Bush established the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas.<\/p>\n
