ALLENTOWN, Pa. – William Allen High School students were sent home early on the first day of school, after police were sent to investigate a bomb threat.<\/p>\n
Allentown Police Assistant Chief James Gress confirmed the bomb threat with 69 News.<\/p>\n
We have not been told at this point that anything has been found.<\/p>\n
William Allen High School students were dismissed at 8:45 a.m. Monday, according to a text the district sent to parents. The district said buses for students who receive transportation arrived at the stadium at 9:15 a.m. for dismissal.<\/p>\n
The Allentown Police Department and Allentown Fire Department are currently on site conducting a thorough investigation to ensure the safety of all students and staff, the district sent in a note to parents.<\/p>\n
The school said it would send another message later in the day with an update.<\/p>\n
The road near the school was blocked off. Students were evacuated from the buildings.<\/p>\n
The scare coincides with the first day of school.<\/p>\n
We got permission to speak to two high school students. One says she is exhausted amid the morning’s events. She said she expected to start the new school year without something like this happening.<\/p>\n
“I don’t want this chaos,” she said.<\/p>\n
She said events like this put a strain on students and teachers.<\/p>\n
Another student said she appreciates authorities are doing everything they can.<\/p>\n
