At the HKQ Kids Helmet Giveaway, children received free helmets to help keep them protected while riding bikes, scooters and other recreational equipment.<\/p>\n
Joe Quinn, an attorney with HKQ Law, said the giveaway is part of the firm’s effort to give back to the community and help families who may not be able to afford helmets.<\/p>\n

“I’ve always felt that we have an obligation to give back to this community that has been so good to us,” Quinn said. “And there are so many people, particularly in this economy, who can’t afford to buy helmets for their kids, and that’s so important safety-wise, so we’re thrilled to do this.”<\/p>\n
For some parents, the cost of buying helmets for multiple children can make it difficult to ensure their children have proper safety equipment.<\/p>\n
“It’s such a big community around her, and not everybody in these type of times that we’re going through could afford helmets,” said Bailey Loyack of Pittston.<\/p>\n
Attorneys with HKQ Law said one of the highlights of the event is seeing families return each year for new helmets as their children grow or their previous helmets are damaged.<\/p>\n
“It’s a great thing for them to be able to have them, and to utilize them and be safe while riding bikes, scooters or anything like that,” said Ryan Molitoris, an attorney with HKQ Law.<\/p>\n
For some children, the need for a replacement helmet was especially clear after crashes.<\/p>\n
Ezra Zvirblis, of Scranton, said his previous helmet was badly damaged after repeated falls.<\/p>\n
“My helmet was like completely shattered on the side,” Zvirblis said “It hurt just to even have on so after that I just thought it would be a good idea.”<\/p>\n
Organizers hope the giveaway continues to remind families that helmets are more than an accessory.
