Rail Fest: Steamtown National Historic Site will celebrate Railfest 2026 Sept. 4-6, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. The park\u2019s premier annual celebration features three days of historic train rides, visiting railroad equipment, locomotive shop demonstrations, exhibits, music, ranger programs, hands-on activities and displays from community and railroad partners. General admission to the park and Railfest is free. This year\u2019s Railfest marks national and local milestones: the 200th anniversary of railroading in the United States, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the 110th anniversary of the National Park Service and the 40th anniversary of Steamtown\u2019s enabling legislation. An opening ceremony will be held Sept. 4 at 10:30 a.m. Railfest once again coincides with La Festa Italiana in downtown Scranton and special programming at the neighboring Electric City Trolley Museum. A free COLTS shuttle will connect Steamtown and La Festa Italiana approximately every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. General admission and parking at Steamtown NHS are free. Fees apply for train rides and some special activities. Some advance train tickets will be available through Recreation.gov beginning Wednesday, Aug. 26, with a limited number available for walk-up purchase during Railfest. No walk-ins accepted. The fee is $70, made by cash, check, money order, credit or debit card. Checks can be made payable to \u201cMarriage License Bureau.\u201d The bureau will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. the fourth Thursday of the month through October. The office is also open on those dates for those wishing to obtain a certified copy of a marriage license for Real ID purposes.<\/p>\n Wayne County<\/p>\n Apple workshop: Penn State Extension Master Gardeners and Master Food Preservers will hold a workshop on growing and preserving apples, Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Wayne County extension office, Park Street Complex, 648 Park St., Suite E, Honesdale. Ashley Sexton, Wayne County master gardener coordinator, will discuss apple varieties best suited for preserving. Master Food Preserver Maryann Curtis will discuss making and canning applesauce. $15 fee.
