The Pennsylvania Beef Council is getting the spotlight on the national stage thanks to its initiative PA Beef to PA Schools program (PBPS).<\/p>\n
The Bedford-based non-profit was recognized by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins during a press conference about child nutrition programs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. on Monday. <\/p>\n
“One shining example our friends in Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Beef Council, our great friends there, they’re now partnering with 175 local schools across the Keystone State to serve nearly 300,000 students great American beef and protein as we connect those ranchers and farmers directly to the schools. This is how we win, everyone,” Rollins said. <\/p>\n
Just last month, the U.S. Department of Agriculture awarded the Pennsylvania Beef Council the Patrick Leahy Farm to School grant. The grant provides funds for innovative farm to school projects ranging from $100,000 to $500,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen students have access to local beef on their lunch trays, they are not only receiving a nutritious, high-quality protein; they are also gaining a better understanding of where their food comes from and the people behind it.
