The Allegheny County Health Department says it’s getting more calls than it usually does for bats. <\/p>\n
In a social media post, the Department says they’re getting more calls than they can remember about bats.<\/p>\n
At Critter Control, Ian Ferguson says while his company hasn’t experienced a higher call volume, it is bat season. <\/p>\n
And should one make its way into your house, \u201copen a window in the room that they see the bat, try to contain that bat to that room and allow that bat some time to fly out,\u201d said Ferguson.<\/p>\n
If you find a bad lying on the ground, you can try to use a plastic container to cover it and slide a piece of cardboard, or something similar, to keep contain it.<\/p>\n
Then, take it to the Health Department to have it tested.<\/p>\n
He says the bat doesn’t want to be inside your house any more than you want it to be there. <\/p>\n
And while bats can have rabies, he says it’s actually a low percentage of bats that carry the virus. <\/p>\n
He also says a fungus that disrupts the hibernation period of bats has actually led to fewer bat colonies in the region.<\/p>\n
