The Fortune 500 company and payroll processing giant ADP held a ribbon-cutting on Oct. 10 for its new state-of-the-art campus in downtown Allentown, where 1,000 employees will occupy the top 10 floors of the 13-story Five City Center office tower.

“Today is a special day for us for a lot of reasons,” Tom Perrotti, ADP President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing, said to about 200 people at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “We at ADP are proud to have been a long-standing employer in Allentown and a contributor to the Lehigh Valley. We’re committed to this community.”

The new office space reaffirms ADP’s continued investment to the Lehigh Valley. The global technology company first moved to the Allentown area in 2006, and its new downtown Allentown campus consolidates several Lehigh Valley offices into one central location in the region.

The leading global technology company, which provides human capital management solutions to 810,000 companies and pays nearly 40 million people worldwide, will encompass 234,241 square-feet within the Class A office building at Eighth and Hamilton streets.

The Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) was involved with ADP dating back to their first entry into the Lehigh Valley market, when they opened their first telemarketing center in Upper Macungie Township. At the time, they cited the region’s strong labor pool and excellent colleges and universities as among the reasons they came here.

When ADP was considering their move to Allentown, LVEDC worked with a consultant they had commissioned to conduct an examination of the labor market. ADP was seeking to consolidate and grow, and a handful of different markets were under consideration before they again chose the Lehigh Valley as the best location for their project.

“While I certainly want to give credit to ADP for choosing Allentown as its new home, I also recognize the economic resurgence that’s happening in the Lehigh Valley,” said Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf during the ribbon-cutting. “Allentown is in the midst of a reinvention and state and local officials are committed to working collaboratively to making the Lehigh Valley known worldwide as a place of wealth and success.”

Five City Center was developed by City Center Allentown, which has invested $588 million in downtown Allentown, with another $100 million under development and $310 million in the planning stages, according to company spokesman Jeff Vaughan.

With the PPL Center at its core, City Center development includes more than 1.8 million square feet among five Class A office towers, the Renaissance Allentown Hotel, six residential communities, upscale retail and restaurant space, and the Velocity coworking space.

ADP’s Five City Center office features redesigned, modern seating with technology-forward work stations, an ADP medical center, state-of-the-art training facilities, and recreational and gaming space among other amenities, according ADP President & CEO Carlos Rodriguez.

The campus also includes a parking deck at Eighth and Walnut streets with apartments wrapped around it, another apartment building at Seventh and Walnut streets, and a park. Sustainably designed, the building incorporates unique features including a “Living Wall” in the lobby, which contains more than two-thousand plants and runs off a smart self-watering system.

“ADP’s commitment to grow in downtown Allentown is nothing short of transformational for this community,” said City Center President J.B. Reilly. “The impact of having ADP’s bright, active, and engaged group of professionals based in Five City Center has already been felt by the downtown’s retail, restaurant, housing, arts, and nonprofit communities.”

As one of ADP’s Inside Sales Centers of Excellence, the Five City Center office houses part of ADP’s inside salesforce, which plays a critical role in helping clients find the right human capital management solutions for their business needs.
