A Scranton man led state police on a high-speed pursuit Sunday through Dunmore on an unregistered motorized scooter, while carrying a 3D-printed firearm in a backpack, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Thomas Jennings, 29, faces a felony charge of attempting to elude a police officer, as well as a misdemeanor charge of carrying a firearm without a license and multiple traffic offenses, including reckless driving, careless driving, running stop signs and failing to stop for red lights.<\/p>\n
According to a criminal complaint, just before noon, troopers were on patrol southbound on Interstate 81 when they spotted a motorized scooter with no registration plate. They also noted that the operator of the vehicle, later identified as Jennings, didn\u2019t have proper eye protection.<\/p>\n
Trooper Brian Roberts activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the scooter, but Jennings failed to yield.<\/p>\n
When Roberts pulled into the left lane adjacent to the scooter, Jennings nodded as if he was going to pull over.<\/p>\n
Instead Jennings exited the interstate at Exit 188 and made a right turn onto North Blakely Street. He continued driving through multiple red lights in an effort to evade the trooper, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0 passed a pickup truck, drove near children and parents gathered for a soccer game, and passed four vehicles in moderate-to-heavy traffic on South Blakely Street.<\/p>\n
After cutting through an H&R Block parking lot and pulling into Pizza Hut, Jennings threw his backpack to the ground and was arrested.<\/p>\n
Troopers alleged he failed to stop at four red lights and 12 stop signs.<\/p>\n
Police found a Taurus G2C 9 mm handgun with a 3D-printed frame and ammunition in his backpack. They determined Jennings didn\u2019t have a license to carry a firearm, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Jennings told troopers he fled because of the illegal gun.<\/p>\n
The pursuit lasted five minutes and 19 seconds, with Jennings reaching 55 mph in commercial and residential neighborhoods during the pursuit, troopers said.<\/p>\n
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 2 before District Judge Paul Keeler.<\/p>\n
