SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. — Lehigh Valley Zoo is welcoming a new baby, and they are looking for name suggestions!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Zoo officials say on Monday, Moira, the zoo’s six-year-old common eland, gave birth to a healthy female calf.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her care team came up with four names to choose from: Dolly, Twyla, Rainbow, and Rosebud.<\/p>\n

This is Moira\u2019s second calf born at the zoo, according to officials. Her last calf, David, was born in January 2025.<\/p>\n

Moira and her newborn have been staying in a behind-the-scenes space, allowing the calf to nurse, let them bond, and give the calf time to master her mobility skills before joining the herd, according to zoo officials.<\/p>\n

When the calf was 1-day old, veterinary staff did a neonate examination to determine sex, check her overall health, get a weight, and draw blood for testing. The yet-to-be-named calf weighed about 75 pounds, according to the zoo’s Facebook.\u00a0<\/p>\n
