BERN TOWNSHIP, Pa. \u2014 Crews responded to a house fire in Berks County Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
The fire was reported just after 1:30 p.m. on the 2700 block of Leisczs Bridge Road in Bern Township.<\/p>\n
Officials said two people were inside the home and unable to evacuate.<\/p>\n
Bern Township police arrived at the scene and found smoke coming from the home. Officers confirmed the occupants were trapped inside.<\/p>\n
Before fire crews arrived, a police officer helped an occupant escape through a front window, officials said.<\/p>\n
Firefighters stretched two handlines from Engine 66 and quickly brought the fire under control.<\/p>\n
Additional crews assisted with searches of the home and helped remove multiple cats and rabbits, officials said.<\/p>\n
