(WOLF) \u2014 West Nile virus has been detected in two more mosquito samples in Lackawanna County, marking the eighth detection in the county this summer.<\/p>\n<p>County officials said the mosquitoes were collected August 17 at two locations: East Corey Street at Walsh Court in Scranton and the 300 block of Spring Street in Moosic.<\/p>\n<p>Lackawanna County was notified of the positive test results on August 24.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the repeated detections in mosquitoes, officials said no human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Lackawanna County this year.<\/p>\n<p>County officials and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection are continuing to monitor mosquito activity.<\/p>\n<p>Residents are being encouraged to reduce potential mosquito breeding areas around their homes by getting rid of standing water. Officials recommend changing the water in birdbaths at least once a week and keeping swimming pools properly cleaned and chlorinated.<\/p>\n<p>People spending time outdoors can also reduce their risk of mosquito bites by using insect repellent and wearing clothing that covers exposed skin when pr<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO.
