A 45-year-old Scranton man faces charges after police said he sold drugs to a confidential informant in the city.<\/p>\n
After members of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop R Vice Unit, Throop Police Department and Lackawanna County district attorney\u2019s office launched an investigation Aug. 24 into the illegal distribution of cocaine in Lackawanna County, the informant arranged a meeting to purchase cocaine from an individual known as \u201cJers,\u201d later identified as Gary Murphy Jr., at 112 Green Place, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
The drugs from the transaction tested positive for cocaine, police said.<\/p>\n
The informant also arranged a meeting to purchase crack cocaine from Murphy at the same address, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Authorities executed a search warrant at 112 Green Place on Thursday around 9:30 p.m. and found Murphy in the living room, police said.<\/p>\n
Authorities seized approximately 57 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately 2.29 grams of suspected crack cocaine, approximately 2.7 grams of suspected heroin, approximately 3.6 grams of suspected cocaine, approximately 7.5 grams of suspected marijuana, 36 suspected ecstasy pills, a digital scale, bulk packaging material, and a prescription pill bottle prescribed to Gary Murphy in an upstairs bedroom, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Additionally, officers found Murphy was in possession of $690, which was commingled with the prerecorded buy money, and the cellphone used to facilitate the drug deals, police said.<\/p>\n
Police charged Murphy, 918 Sanderson Ave., Apt. 5, with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and related counts.<\/p>\n
As of Monday, Murphy remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.
