Philip \u201cPhil\u201d L. Eason, age 68, of Muscatine, IA, and formerly of Scranton, IA, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA.<\/p>\n
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at the Scranton Community Building in Scranton, IA, with Pastor Eric Schumacher officiating. Casket bearers will be Bob English, Chad Newman, Jeff Schmidt, Leighton Smith, Randy Fahn, Roger Nemitz, Tony Mineart, Bruce Lohaus, and Gary Maley. Burial will be in the Dillavou Cemetery near Scranton.<\/p>\n
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton from 5 \u2013 7 P.M. on Friday evening. The casket will be moved to the Scranton Community Building at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until 1:45 P.M. prior to the service.<\/p>\n

Phil was born on July 9, 1958 in Carroll, IA, and he was the son of Paul and Patricia (Hall) Eason. Phil grew up on and was an active part of running the family farm. He graduated from Scranton Consolidated Schools in 1976 where he played football, golf, and sang in the school choir and small groups. Phil gave his life to Christ as a youngster and was raised in the Friends Church. He was a trustee at Pleasant Ridge Friends Church for many years. Phil was married to his high school sweetheart Laurel Eberle on October 2, 1976 at Pleasant Ridge Friends Church in Coon Rapids. The couple lived in Orange City where Phil attended Northwestern College. They moved back to rural Scranton where he worked for McLaughlin Farms and later National By-Products\/Darling Ingredients for over 40 years before retiring in 2012. They also lived in Red Oak and Bellevue, NE before moving to Muscatine in 2019 where Phil was the General Manager for Bakery Feeds. Phil always encouraged his children to be actively involved in music and athletics, attending many concerts and games. Phil and his son Amos were interested in R.C. Flying. He was a passionate remote control airplane pilot and joined the flying club in Council Bluffs and a member of the Flying Boys of Iowa. The group flew 3-D routines and fun flys around the mid-west. He continued to fly after their move to Muscatine becoming a member of three clubs: Lone Tree Flyers, Iowa City Aerohawks, and Muscatine Flyers. He made many friends over the years; he was easy-going and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on his 1971 Chevelle which was fitted for drag racing, and Phil was able to take his Chevelle down the track a few times before poor health forced him to stop.<\/p>\n
Phil is survived by his wife Laurel \u201cLaurie\u201d of Muscatine; his children and their families: Joe Eason (Jen) of Port Washington, WI, Abbey Lochmoeller of Creston, and Amos Eason (Sarah) of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren: Sam Eason, Maddie Eason, Dylan Eason, Cadence Pierce, Joseph Lochmoeller, Micah Lochmoeller, Caleb Lochmoeller, and Warren Eason; a brother Perry Eason of Carroll; a sister Polly Eason of Carroll; a brother-in-law Steve Eberle of Boone; a sister-in-law Sara Hardy (Mike) of Des Moines; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.<\/p>\n
Phil was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Pat Eason; his in-laws: Duane and Pat Eberle and Carol Eberle; and sister Pamela in infancy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Philip \u201cPhil\u201d L.
