FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) \u2014 Governor Josh Shapiro has now weighed in on the growing debate surrounding Flock cameras and the way they are used.<\/p>\n
In a press conference on Friday, the Pennsylvania governor explained that the cameras are not allowed on state property and that PennDOT does not allow them on their roadways.<\/p>\n
“I think law enforcement needs to have tools to keep communities safe. Flock cameras are not a tool that I support,” he said.<\/p>\n
The Pennsylvania State Police does not use Flock cameras. Period.<\/p>\n
“I would welcome bipartisan legislation to ban these across the state,” Shapiro said.<\/p>\n
This is not something I support.This is not something in the public interest.<\/p>\n
Flock cameras have been at the center of controversy in the Commonwealth, especially in Franklin County, after the county agreed to end its contract with the company, despite pushback from the county’s sheriff’s department.<\/p>\n
“I understand where you’re coming from,” said Chief Deputy Dan Foy with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n
“I just hope no one gets raped in this county. No one gets murdered in this county, and it’s anyone’s family we know. I hope it’s no one. But if that happens, I hope law enforcement can quickly catch these people without this technology.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa.
