{"id":278636,"date":"2026-09-04T03:14:24","date_gmt":"2026-09-04T03:14:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/278636\/"},"modified":"2026-09-04T03:14:24","modified_gmt":"2026-09-04T03:14:24","slug":"trump-commutes-johnny-docs-sentence-lawyer-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/278636\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump commutes Johnny Doc&#8217;s sentence, lawyer says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This story originally appeared on <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/president-trump-commutes-sentence-former-philadelphia-labor-boss-john-dougherty-lawyers-says\/19786808\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">6abc<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>Convicted former Philadelphia labor leader\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/fmr-ibew-local-98-labor-leader-john-dougherty\/15051422\/\" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John \u201cJohnny Doc\u201d Dougherty<\/a>\u00a0could soon be released from prison after President Donald Trump reportedly signed a commutation of his sentence.\n<\/p>\n<p>The commutation was signed Thursday, according to Dougherty\u2019s attorney, George Bochetto.\n<\/p>\n<p>As of Thursday evening, the U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Pardon Attorney website had not yet reflected any change in Dougherty\u2019s sentence.\n  <\/p>\n<p>Dougherty was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/fmr-ibew-local-98-labor-leader-john-dougherty\/15051422\/\" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sentenced in 2024<\/a> to six years in federal prison after being convicted of bribing a Philadelphia City Council member and stealing nearly $600,000 from the labor union he led for nearly three decades.\n<\/p>\n<p>It was not immediately clear when Dougherty could be released from custody.\n<\/p>\n<p>Dougherty led Local 98 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for nearly three decades before his conviction.\n<\/p>\n<p>In 2021,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/jury-deliberations-bobby-henon-johnny-dougherty-philadelphia-trial\/11239124\/\" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dougherty was convicted on bribery charges<\/a>\u00a0in a separate trial, along with former city councilmember Bobby Henon.\n        <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This story originally appeared on 6abc.
