A Jefferson Twp. couple face multiple charges after they resisted Pennsylvania State Police responding to their residence for a domestic dispute Monday, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Lovejit Singh is accused of shoving one of the responding troopers while insisting officers remove Ravneet Kaur, his wife, from their home.<\/p>\n
Once troopers got Singh in handcuffs, however, Kaur stepped in and tried to prevent troopers from arresting him.<\/p>\n
Singh, 32, faces felony charges of aggravated assault of a police officer. Kaur, 25, is charged with obstructing justice and resisting arrest.<\/p>\n
According to a criminal complaint, troopers originally responded to 251 Mountainview Drive at about 10 p.m., where they spoke with Singh and Kaur, who agreed to separate for the night.<\/p>\n
Troopers left the residence, but just 12 minutes later they were called back to the scene for the report of a continuing dispute between the couple.<\/p>\n
Police again determined the argument was solely verbal and there had been no crime. As they were preparing to leave, Singh became loud and argumentative, insisting troopers remove his wife.<\/p>\n
As troopers were speaking with Singh, he raised his arms and insisted they arrest him. He then walked toward Trooper Corey Carr with a raised arm, coming within inches of the law enforcement officer\u2019s face.<\/p>\n
Carr pushed Singh back to create distance between them and ordered him to stop.<\/p>\n
Singh then lunged toward the trooper, shoving him with both of his arms. Troopers took Singh to the ground and put him in handcuffs, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
Troopers noted that he physically resisted them while being arrested.<\/p>\n
As Singh was being escorted to a patrol vehicle, Kaur lunged toward them and grabbed Carr in an effort to interfere with her husband\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n
Troopers ordered Kaur to stop several times, but she continued to try to prevent her husband\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n
Carr then attempted to arrest Kaur, who pulled her arms away from him to avoid being handcuffed. Troopers were ultimately able to take her into custody.<\/p>\n
Bail was set at $100,000 for Singh and $5,000 for Kaur; both remain at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of those amounts.<\/p>\n
