SCRANTON, Pa. \u2014 Where customers used to come in is now locked up after Isla Paraiso restaurant in\u00a0Scranton<\/a>\u00a0was shut down by order of the Lackawanna District Attorney’s office on Tuesday over early morning noise complaints, fights, and other violence outside the restaurant.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou’re disrupting the neighborhood, we’re going to take it seriously, we’re going to make sure we shut you down, that’s what today is all about\u201d says Lackawanna District Attorney Brian Gallagher.<\/p>\n

The DA’s office says the restaurant seems like a reputable business during the day, but there have been dozens of calls for police to the location as its nightclub hours spill into the streets. A single shot was fired outside the business early Sunday morning, and while nobody was hurt, the DA’s office says it’s part of a worrying trend.<\/p>\n

District attorney Brian Gallagher says they welcome anyone who wants to run a business, but they must do so without disrupting the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you want to come here in Lackawanna County and start a business, we have neighbors and friends, and everybody welcomes you and will support you,\u201d says Gallagher.<\/p>\n

It’s the commotion in the early morning that caused a judge to sign on the order to close the business.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut once you take advantage of the neighborhood, once you go over that line, where there’s drugs, alcohol and gunshots, we’re not going to tolerate it; go somewhere else,\u201d remarks Gallagher.<\/p>\n

The closing comes as a shock to some customers who frequent the spot. Evan Grandoit gets lunch at the restaurant most days… \u00a0He says it’s a surprise to see them shut down.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know they have a nightclub, I don’t come at night I just come for the food during the day, I don’t see any problems, I don’t have any problems myself\u201d says Grandoit.<\/p>\n

With doors currently shut, the DA’s office says they want to keep the business closed to cut off the disruptions in the early morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people in there working right now seem like very nice people, but it’s really what happens from 10 pm to 4 am, not what happens right now,\u201d says Gallagher.<\/p>\n

A hearing will be held Thursday at the Lackawanna County Courthouse to determine whether the Isla Paraiso Restaurant will be considered a nuisance establishment. The restaurant will be shut down permanently until that decision is made.<\/p>\n
