\nWell-known music in Kingston<\/p>\nAt Temple B\u2019nai B\u2019rith, a Reform synagogue in Kingston, all are welcome free of charge. No one is ever turned away.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe High Holy Days are a time of reflection, introspection, and spiritual renewal,\u201d Temple B\u2019nai B\u2019rith President Adam Thalenfeld said in a media release. \u201cWe invite everyone to join us as we come together as a community to celebrate these sacred holidays. And remember, all are welcome to our Shabbat services throughout the year, as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cantor and composer Charles Osborne will provide music. \u201cWe are so lucky to have gotten him,\u201d said Rabbi Laurie Green. \u201cHe is very high in demand.\u201d<\/p>\n
His \u201cSamachti B\u2019omrim Li\u201d is a widely performed and popular composition. It is a Hebrew setting of Psalm 122.<\/p>\n
Osborne, a Canadian who spent some time in the Poconos, said Temple B\u2019nai B\u2019rith has a reputation for professional music on holidays.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thought it looked like it might be fun,\u201d Osborne said. \u201cAnd since I have all of this repertoire that I\u2019ve written, I thought it might be interesting for the congregation.\u201d He is working with Temple B\u2019nai B\u2019rith to balance the new and the familiar for a \u201cmeaningful, fulfilling experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
His wife, Sue Osborne, will join him and play the flute.<\/p>\n
Osborne\u2019s original compositions include four oratorios, a symphony, music for flute, guitar, viola and harp, and more than 300 choral pieces.<\/p>\n
Osborne composed \u201cKings and Fishermen,\u201d performed at New York\u2019s Lincoln Center, and \u201cSouls On Fire,\u201d which featured Leonard Nimoy and was performed across the country.<\/p>\n
On the secular side, he won an Obie, an award for off-Broadway theater in New York City. He is a founding member of the psychedelic band the Rainbow Press.<\/p>\n
One of the Rosh Hashana events, tashlich, a ritual symbolically casting away sins into a body of flowing water, will be at the Lands at Hillside Farms.<\/p>\n
Green asks that reservations be made by phone, but said no one will be turned away.
