The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed to TMZ that Andy Williams, the professional wrestler known as The Butcher in All Elite Wrestling, died Friday night after suffering a medical emergency during a match at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania.

He was 48.

Williams had been competing in a tag team bout alongside his longtime partner, The Blade, against TME at an Enjoy Wrestling event billed as the promotion’s Five Years show. He collapsed at the conclusion of the match.

Medical staff on site administered CPR until paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital.

What Happened at Mr. Smalls Theatre

Enjoy Wrestling posted a statement to X confirming that Williams went down at the end of his bout, that doctors on staff responded immediately with CPR, and that an ambulance took him from the venue.

The promotion shut the event down and sent all attendees home, thanking those who had assisted.

The show’s cancellation was immediate. Wrestling fans on social media responded with widespread concern and an outpouring of support for Williams and his family.

Conflicting Reports Before Death Was Confirmed

The hours after the collapse produced a period of publicly conflicting information.

Wrestling podcaster Famous Davis claimed Williams had died at Allegheny General Hospital, adding that next of kin had been notified and that an autopsy was planned after the Labor Day holiday. Davis said he stood by his source when Ringside News contacted him directly.

Enjoy Wrestling initially pushed back. The promotion responded to a social media post repeating the death claim by flatly stating it was untrue and calling on users to delete it. That response was later deleted by the promotion itself.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office subsequently confirmed the death to TMZ, resolving the dispute. No cause of death has been released pending the autopsy.

Williams Beyond the Ring

Outside professional wrestling, Williams played rhythm guitar for the heavy metal band Every Time I Die. His AEW career was built around his pairing with The Blade as a tag team act, and the two had wrestled together for years across multiple promotions.
