SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 A 17-year-old girl allegedly carrying a concealed handgun kicked, spit on and headbutted Scranton police officers while resisting arrest early Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
Scranton Police said a special detail assigned to the city’s Hill Section encountered what officers described as an armed, violent confrontation in the 400 block of Taylor Avenue around 1:51 a.m.<\/p>\n
Police said the 17-year-old ran from officers before she was eventually caught following a foot pursuit.<\/p>\n
During the arrest, police allege the teenager physically resisted officers by kicking, spitting and headbutting them. She also allegedly tried to remove a concealed gun from her waistband.<\/p>\n
Officers recovered a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine from the girl’s waistband, according to police.<\/p>\n
Police said the teenager was already on juvenile probation.<\/p>\n
She was taken to the Northampton County Juvenile Detention Center and faces charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, loitering and prowling at night, recklessly endangering another person, six counts of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.<\/p>\n
According to police, the teenager had been among a large group engaged in disorderly activity in the area, including fighting, trespassing and blocking traffic.<\/p>\n
