Mellonated Festival promotes safe space for youth at Pittsburgh’s Mellon Park<\/p>\n

The third annual Mellonated Festival<\/a> took place at Pittsburgh’s Mellon Park on Monday.<\/p>\n

The event is intended to provide a safe environment for young people to come together, with live music, food vendors and a celebrity basketball game.<\/p>\n

“It’s a ‘stop the violence’ event. There’s a lot of kids out here. We’re doing it because we want to put on for the kids to have a space to go to, and interact with each other with a safe environment that allows them to be kids and run around and meet other kids,” organizer Malcolm Muhammad said.<\/p>\n

The festival was made possible by Allegheny County’s Main Streets Allegheny initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Pittsburgh’s been necessarily not the best place for the kids to go out and have fun. Like, they’re stopping downtown. So I wanted to have an event that was mainly just for the kids,” Muhammad said.<\/p>\n
