A 24-year-old driver who, allegedly, abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot after striking and killing a man in a crosswalk in Bethlehem on Labor Day has been charged with vehicular homicide, officials said. <\/p>\n
According to police, Gian C. Bajandas Correa, 24, has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving and related offenses after he is alleged to have killed a pedestrian in a hit-and-run crash that happened at about 4:05 p.m. in the area of Daly Avenue and Wind Creek Boulevard in Bethlehem on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026. <\/p>\n
At that time, officials said, Bajandas Correa is alleged to have been driving a vehicle at a high rate of speed along Lynn Avenue before turning onto Daly Avenue and crossing a double yellow line in order to pass a vehicle. <\/p>\n
However, Bajandas Correa’s vehicle lost traction during the turn and collided with another vehicle before it continued on and struck a man who was pushing a bicycle across Daly Avenue in a marked crosswalk. <\/p>\n
This man, who officials did not provide additional identifying information on, was taken to a nearby hospital after the crash where he was pronounced. <\/p>\n
A driver in the vehicle that was, allegedly, struck by Bajandas Correa’s vehicle also suffered minor injuries, officials said. <\/p>\n
Following the crash, police allege Bajandas Correa abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, only to be found a short time later near the Minsi Trail Bridge. <\/p>\n
Also, according to police, Bajandas Correa told responding officers he was using his cellphone while driving and was using a controlled substance while operating the vehicle. <\/p>\n
On Tuesday morning, officials said investigators were awaiting results of test of Bajandas Correa’s blood following the deadly crash. <\/p>\n
Police said Bajandas Correa may face additional charges if supported by results of the blood test and the ongoing investigation. <\/p>\n
Bajandas Correa was arraigned and his bail was set at $250,000.<\/p>\n
