Police say Santiago sent a family member a photo of the rifle and ammunition, leading his family to obtain an involuntary mental health commitment warrant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officers tried to stop Santiago&#8217;s vehicle, then around 8:30 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police found him driving Penn Can Travel Plaza in Susquehanna County. The chase continued south on Interstate 81, through several Lackawanna County communities, until it finally ended near the Scranton Expressway after a PIT maneuver was performed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to state police, during the stop, Santiago displayed a rifle from the driver&#8217;s-side window, failed to follow troopers&#8217; commands, and then a gunshot was heard from inside the vehicle, leading state police to fire shots into the vehicle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Santiago was removed from the vehicle and transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, where he later died.
