Project renderings give a glimpse of what the Radnor Property Group plans to show Monday, when the company presents its redevelopment proposal to the Oakland Planning and Development Corporation.<\/p>\n
Radnor reportedly wants to transform the vacant former Quality Inn property along the Boulevard of the Allies into an eight-story building with 265 apartments.<\/p>\n
While the University of Pittsburgh owns the property, it won\u2019t be used for student housing. Radnor says it\u2019ll offer market-rate, affordable multi-family residences targeted towards young professionals. <\/p>\n
\u201cI hope that it\u2019ll be affordable-ish – you never know,\u201d Pitt student Mia Kalmanson said. \u201cSome of the newer developments, like the HERE apartments and the Caroline building, can get pretty pricey, which is definitely an interesting move to do that on a college campus, but there is a market for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The development named Zulema would also include a much-needed ground-level grocery store in Oakland.<\/p>\n
We have to go to like South Side all the time and a lot of kids don\u2019t have cars here, so I feel like having one walkable, it\u2019s absolutely needed,\u201d Pitt senior Jack Degaetano said. <\/p>\n
Radnor also plans to build on-site parking.<\/p>\n
\u201cI struggle a lot on my street with parking, but if they can figure that out, I think It\u2019d be great,\u201d Adam Shellhamer said. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s unclear which grocer Radnor would bring in. Zulema is currently in predevelopment and is expected to break ground in early 2027, with completion slated by spring of 2029. <\/p>\n
