{"id":281902,"date":"2026-09-09T03:06:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T03:06:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/281902\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T03:06:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T03:06:10","slug":"first-candidate-announces-run-to-be-phillys-next-mayor-nbc10-philadelphia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/281902\/","title":{"rendered":"First candidate announces run to be Philly\u2019s next mayor \u2013 NBC10 Philadelphia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Philadelphia&#8217;s mayor has her first challenger in the upcoming race for the top office in the city. <\/p>\n<p>Shania Bennett, 26, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DdCYSOvhquj\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DdCYSOvhquj\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">took to social media<\/a> on Tuesday, Sept. 8 to announce that she is running to become Philadelphia&#8217;s mayor. <\/p>\n<p>In the post, Bennett says her announcement is for people who want &#8220;transformational leadership and transparent representation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In March of 2024, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/philly-mayor-significant-appointments\/3806930\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/philly-mayor-significant-appointments\/3806930\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">appointed Bennett to be the Director of the Office of Youth Engagement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Bennett is hosting a campaign kickoff event on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. <\/p>\n<p>NBC10 has reached out to Mayor Parker&#8217;s office for comment and we have not yet heard back. <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Philadelphia&#8217;s mayor has her first challenger in the upcoming race for the top office in the city.
