{"id":282402,"date":"2026-09-09T19:02:07","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T19:02:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/282402\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T19:02:07","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T19:02:07","slug":"coroner-scranton-man-in-police-chase-died-from-self-inflicted-wound","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/282402\/","title":{"rendered":"Coroner: Scranton man in police chase died from self-inflicted wound"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 20-year-old Scranton man who died Monday evening succumbed to injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a police chase through Lackawanna County, Coroner Tim Rowland announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The coroner determined Christian Santiago didn\u2019t incur any other injuries resulting from external gunfire during the incident.<\/p>\n<p>State police pursued Santiago from Susquehanna County to Scranton after he stole a rifle from a relative\u2019s home earlier in the day and his family obtained an involuntary mental health commitment warrant.<\/p>\n<p>The pursuit ended near the beginning of the McDade Expressway after troopers attempted to spin out Santiago\u2019s vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Police said Santiago showed a rifle from the driver\u2019s-side window and failed to comply with commands.
