PITTSBURGH \u2014 Thursday was the final day to give in-person public comment<\/a> on PRT\u2019S proposed Bus Line Refresh.<\/p>\n

PRT says the plan isn\u2019t a completely new network. It keeps what they feel is working today and \u201cimproves where it can.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those like Tamara Prunty say she will lose her route that is critical to her day-to-day life.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gets me to and from the city and out the city, and I have to go to the school and everything else. It would really be a big effect on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pittsburghers for Public Transit, a transit advocacy group, says they are also concerned about an increase in transfers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are tens of thousands of bus riders that are going to be impacted by this most consequential plan,\u201d said Laura Chu Wiens, executive director of Pittsburghers for Public Transit. \u201cWe think that at a minimum, this proposal should do no harm to existing riders\u201d<\/p>\n

PRT says if their board does approve the plan, it\u2019ll provide more frequent service, expand seven-day service and create new connections across the region.<\/p>\n

According to PRT\u2019s website, once the online portion of public comment is finished on Sept. 30, the board will vote on the plan in November.<\/p>\n

PRT provided us with this statement:<\/p>\n

\u201cBus Line Refresh would retain service for 99.4% of our current ridership. This cost-neutral initiative will provide better, more frequent service for the vast majority of current riders, while expanding service to new areas and (introducing) service to additional riders with minimal loss of service for current riders.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Bus Line Refresh public comment period is currently underway and runs through September 30. Those who wish to provide public comment are encouraged to do so and can visit www.buslinerefresh.com<\/a> for more information.\u201d<\/p>\n
