{"id":283206,"date":"2026-09-10T19:23:04","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T19:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/283206\/"},"modified":"2026-09-10T19:23:04","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T19:23:04","slug":"join-history-hike-at-daniel-boone-homestead-for-berks-trail-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/283206\/","title":{"rendered":"Join History Hike at Daniel Boone Homestead for Berks Trail Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A History Hike will take visitors through the grounds of Daniel Boone Homestead in Exeter Township on Saturday, Sept. 26.<\/p>\n<p>Participating in the Berks Trail Challenge that runs from May 1 to Oct. 31, the Homestead will host a history hike on Sept. 26 beginning at 9 a.m. This hike will take visitors through the Homestead\u2019s historic area, stopping to view various historic structures and landscapes, including the Boone House and Bertolet Log House.<\/p>\n<p>The hike will take approximately one hour and will primarily be on gravel and stone walking paths. Sturdy shoes are encouraged, and dogs are welcome but must be leashed. There is no fee for this program, but donations are always welcome. The program is rain or shine and is presented and funded by the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates.<\/p>\n<p>The Berks Trail Challenge continues through Oct. 31. This is a great opportunity for residents of the community to engage in a free form of exercise and explore the various trails and parks throughout Berks County.<\/p>\n<p>If unable to attend the history hike on Sept. 26, feel free to visit the Homestead during open hours and complete the Boone Trail for the challenge. Start at the DeTurk Education Center, follow behind the Wayside Lodge, and go around the Historic Area loop.<\/p>\n<p>More information can be found at Berks Trail Challenge | Tower Health. Trail challenge participants are encouraged to submit their trail challenge card by Nov. 6 to be entered to win a prize. Register online at <a href=\"https:\/\/towerhealth.org\/btc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/towerhealth.org\/btc<\/a> and plan a visit to the eight participating trails. Participants must record the unique symbol located at each trail, complete at least six of the eight trails, and return their challenge card via email, fax, or mail.<\/p>\n<p>The Daniel Boone Homestead is the birthplace of the famed frontiersman, born in 1734.
