Pirates pitcher Braxton Ashcraft on 15-day injured list<\/p>\n

The Pittsburgh Pirates say Braxton Ashcraft is dealing with right arm discomfort.<\/p>\n

Pirates All-Star Braxton Ashcraft has been placed on the 15-day injured list as the pitcher deals with right arm discomfort, the team announced Thursday.<\/p>\n

The move is retroactive to Monday. If Ashcraft recovers, he would be back before the end of the season.<\/p>\n

It’s a tough break for the Pirates, who are desperately trying to claw back into the playoffs. They were five games out of the final National League wild-card spot entering Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Ashcraft is 14-6 with a 3.65 ERA and 173 strikeouts in what has been a breakout year in his second season in the major leagues.<\/p>\n

The Pirates recalled right-handed pitcher Antwone Kelly from Triple-A Indianapolis to fill Ashcraft’s roster spot.<\/p>\n

Jared Jones will be Pittsburgh’s starting pitcher Thursday night as the Pirates try for a series sweep<\/a> of the Chicago White Sox.<\/p>\n
