PITTSBURGH \u2014 Pittsburgh Animal Control officers rescued a coyote that was stuck in an alley.<\/p>\n
Information shared by Pittsburgh Public Safety on Thursday said officers were called to Atwood Street in Oakland for reports of a coyote wedged between two walls in an alley.<\/p>\n
It took several hours, but officers were able to free the animal safely and relocate it to a wooded area.<\/p>\n
Officials say this incident is an important reminder to residents.<\/p>\n
\u201cCoyotes can be found in urban environments and throughout Pittsburgh neighborhoods, suburbs and parks. They are naturally active during the daylight hours, particularly at dawn and dusk,\u201d an official said.<\/p>\n
Anyone who encounters a coyote should: <\/p>\n
Stay visible and make yourself look as large as possible. Make plenty of noise to encourage it to move away. Never run from a coyote; running can trigger its instinct to chase.<\/p>\n
Officials ask residents to call Animal Care and Control at 412-255-2036 if they come across an injured animal or one in distress. In the case of an emergency, call 412-255-2935. <\/p>\n
