READING, Pa. – September 11th remembrance ceremonies are happening all around the region as we mark 25 years since the terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n
69 News reporter Caitlin Rearden attended two ceremonies in Reading on Friday morning, including the Berks County Memorial Service and a ceremony put on by the City of Reading at City Park.<\/p>\n
The City Park ceremony started at 8:46 a.m., the time that the first Tower was struck. The memorial service continued through the time frame of the events that morning in New York City.<\/p>\n
Bells tolled, and all 343 names of the fallen New York firefighters were read in City Park as the solemn ceremony aimed to make sure people ‘Never Forget’.<\/p>\n
The county also had several speakers, who all addressed the unity our country shared in the immediate wake of the attacks.<\/p>\n
Songs and flags helped build a patriotic spirit of remembrance, as dozens of people turned out for both ceremonies.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday is a very memorable day, and I hope that no one ever forgets what happened after 9\/11 and how our country came together and where humanity was a priority,\u201d said Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo I convey to folks, let\u2019s never forget what happened on September 11th, all those lives lost, all those first responders who risked their lives for our safety and our freedom,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope that love and unity continues to prevail and that we can live in a world where we put our differences aside,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
There were a number of important elements emphasized at each of the ceremonies, but one recurring theme was the necessity to make sure people born after the 9-11 attacks know and understand what happened that day.<\/p>\n
