Pennsylvania’s medical marijuana program needs better DOH oversight, audit finds<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania Auditor General Tim DeFoor says he found a weakness in the state’s oversight of the medical marijuana program. <\/p>\n

A new audit from DeFoor concluded that the Department of Health did not always properly document inspections, respond to complaints or make sure problems were fixed on time. <\/p>\n

Auditors blamed weak procedures, staffing shortages and the lack of an electronic tracking system. <\/p>\n

“The medical marijuana program does have oversight, there are just some areas that need to be strengthened. The Department of Health does have oversight. I want to make that clear. There are just some areas that need to be strengthened and they are well aware of that,” said DeFoor.<\/p>\n

The Department of Health accepted all nine recommendations and said improvements are underway. <\/p>\n
