SCRANTON \u2014 Five Wyoming Valley Conference varsity runners earned trophies Saturday in the 32nd annual Lackawanna County Commissioners Cross Country Invitational.<\/p>\n
The top 25 finishers in each of four races, including junior high, at McDade Park were recognized.<\/p>\n
Nanticoke\u2019s David Houssock led the way with a fourth-place finish and Hanover Area\u2019s Joseph Bly was ninth out of 132 boys finishers from 18 schools.<\/p>\n
Pittston Area\u2019s Quinnie Jones and Alexis Noone made the top 25 in the girls race along with Hanover Area\u2019s Ayla Schappert.<\/p>\n
Riverside won the boys title while Abington Heights took the girls championship and finished second in boys.<\/p>\n
Jack Davies won the boys race in 16:41.56 to lead four Riverside finishers in the top seven.<\/p>\n
Joseph Grad of Abington Heights was a little under 15 seconds back.<\/p>\n
Riverside outscored Abington heights 29-48.<\/p>\n
Hanover Area was sixth with 206 points. Pittston Area posted a 255 for 10th among the 12 schools that had at least the five finishers needed for a team score.<\/p>\n
Houssock finished in 17:04.02. Bly\u2019s time was 17:16.76.<\/p>\n
Jack Scagliotti led Pittston Area, taking 40th.<\/p>\n
Brayden Gaylord was 96th for Wyoming Area, which like Nanticoke, entered individuals, but not a full team.<\/p>\n
Abington Heights defeated Scranton Prep 57-83 for the girls title.<\/p>\n
The individual race ended in the opposite order with Vella Byrne from Scranton Prep winning in 19:18.10. Marley Gilboy from Abington Heights was second in 19:35.31.<\/p>\n
Jones and Noone, both freshmen, were 13th and 20th. They helped Pittston Area finish seventh with 156 points.<\/p>\n
Schappert was 21st. Hanover Area was last of nine teams with 181.<\/p>\n
Wyoming Area did not have a full team. Addison Gaylord was 64th in the 93-runner field.<\/p>\n
High Point Classical Academy Middle School in Larksville had two junior high medalists \u2013 Jon Tarr seventh in the boys race and Kate Kraal 11th among girls.<\/p>\n
Pittston Area\u2019s Ella Anthony was 11th of 100 in the junior high girls race.<\/p>\n
BOYS SOCCER<\/p>\n
Wyoming Area 7, MMI Prep 1<\/p>\n
Ben Rogish came through with three goals and Austin Price added a pair for the Warriors. Caden Reeves and Hanza Nawaz rounded out the scoring.<\/p>\n
The Preppers got a goal from Jeremiah Aquino.<\/p>\n
Wyoming Seminary 4, Lake-Lehman 0<\/p>\n
Wyoming Seminary scored three times in the second half to pull away for the victory. Caden Hoban scored twice in a six-minute span for the Blue Knights in the second half. Liubomyr Vasylynka finished off the scoring with a penalty kick.<\/p>\n
Justuce Schanberg had Seminary\u2019s first goal off an assist by George Rolland. Rolland also assisted Hoban\u2019s first goal while Vasylynka assisted the second.<\/p>\n
FIELD HOCKEY<\/p>\n
Wyoming Seminary 6, Pittston Area 0<\/p>\n
Wyoming Seminary finished off a game suspended Sept. 1 because of thunderstorms, defeating Pittston Area.<\/p>\n
Senior Ella Plummer led the Blue Knights with three goals. Anna Rolland and Apollonia Bruno each recorded a goal and an assist, while Emma Ey contributed an unassisted goal and three assists. Ava Sanders also added an assist.<\/p>\n
Lola Sorino scored Pittston Area\u2019s goal on a penalty stroke with 7:10 remaining in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n
Goalkeepers Emilee Fiske and Elizabeth VanKuyk split time in the cage, combining for three saves on four shots on goal.<\/p>\n
