BLOOMING GROVE, PIKE CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Pennsylvania is remembering Cpl. Bryon K. Dickson II 12 years after he was killed in an ambush outside the state police barracks in Pike County.<\/p>\n

Dickson, a U.S. Marine veteran and seven-year member of the Pennsylvania State Police, was finishing his shift at the Blooming Grove station shortly before 11 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2014, when a gunman opened fire from woods across the road.<\/p>\n

Dickson was struck twice and fatally wounded as he left the barracks.<\/p>\n

Trooper Alex Douglass had just arrived for his overnight shift when he saw Dickson on the ground and moved to help. Douglass was shot in the hip but made it back inside the building. He survived after extensive medical treatment.<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania marks 12 years since ambush that killed Cpl. Bryon Dickson<\/p>\n

The attack triggered a 48-day manhunt through the Poconos. Investigators ultimately captured Eric Frein on Oct. 30, 2014, at an abandoned resort property in Monroe County.<\/p>\n

A Pike County jury convicted Frein in 2017 of first-degree murder, attempted murder, terrorism and other counts. He was sentenced to death, and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court upheld his conviction and sentence.<\/p>\n

Dickson was 38 when he died. He is survived by his wife, Tiffany, and their two sons.
