Scranton, Pa. \u2014 Bob Bolus, a prominent Scranton towing business owner, civic figure, and polarizing political candidate whose influence echoed across northeastern Pennsylvania and the state, has died at age 83.<\/p>\n

A towing company owner, he was widely known for his “Trump Truck” which appeared at political rallies across the region beginning in 2015 when he outfitted the semi-truck with a large image of President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n

Even Bolus critics, however, credited him with hosting an annual Christmas dinner for more than 30 years. It was on those days he seemed willing to sit down with others regardless of their political leanings and insist that they eat a full meal, accompanied by dessert.<\/p>\n

Up until a few months ago, many noted the octogenarian was active and robust.\u00a0But then he suffered a stroke that ultimately took his life.<\/p>\n

Across social media, many noted that although they didn’t agree with Bolus, they were saddened by his death.<\/p>\n

“Bob, like anyone, was not perfect, but he did his part to help those in need,” one comment read.<\/p>\n

Statewide notoriety<\/p>\n

While based out of Lackawanna County, Bolus was a widely recognized figure across central and northeastern Pennsylvania. His activism frequently took him beyond regional borders, driving his truck convoys to Harrisburg, Washington, D.C., and political events across Pennsylvania to broadcast his views on law enforcement, economic policy, and government oversight.<\/p>\n

Across several decades, Bolus staged numerous bids for public office, running for mayor of Scranton and Lackawanna County positions. His campaigns repeatedly generated statewide legal and political debates over Commonwealth election laws and candidate eligibility under the Pennsylvania Constitution, following felony convictions dating back to 1991 and 2012.<\/p>\n

Bolus had been convicted of stealing a tractor trailer and front end loader using his towing equipment, then lying to police to cover it up. He was also convicted of insurance fraud involving a tow truck wreck.<\/p>\n

Bolus often told others that he believed that his felonies would one day be expunged and that he would ultimately hold political office.<\/p>\n
