In a surprise move over the weekend, leaders of the nation\u2019s top artificial intelligence companies joined forces to call for a global slowdown in AI development<\/a>, warning that rapid advancements in AI technology pose the risk of humans losing control of AI systems as models have grown increasingly skilled at building the next generation of AI technology<\/p>\n

In a viral blog post<\/a>, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei expressed concerns that highly sophisticated rogue AI agents \u201ccould be capable of taking over the entire internet\u201d in six to 12 months, and outlined a three-step plan to slow AI development and properly safeguard models; components of that plan were quickly endorsed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman<\/a>, xAI founder Elon Musk<\/a> and Google DeepMind Chair Demis Hassabis<\/a>. The agreement on slowing down the pace of AI development comes after multiple warnings from Anthropic<\/a> researchers<\/a> that AI \u201ccould kill us all by the end of the decade\u201d \u2013 and quickly caught the attention of politicians across the U.S.<\/a>, including elected leaders in Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n
