HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — For the next few years, the State Museum of Pennsylvania will be closed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Harrisburg building is undergoing extensive renovations, which are expected to last until early 2029, but some of the museum’s most important exhibits are moving down the road.<\/p>\n

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) has partnered with the Dauphin County Library System. Starting this Wednesday, popular hands-on history, art and science programs will be at the George & Hettie Love Memorial Library on South 29th Street in Harrisburg.<\/p>\n

Events will be held monthly through December. All fall sessions are scheduled for noon. Each lasts around 45 minutes. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited, with a target audience of children in Pre-K through 2nd grade.<\/p>\n

The PHMC previously announced the renovation project<\/a>, expected to total $79.3 million, in June 2025, the biggest in the museum’s history. Additions include a new welcome experience, renovated lobby, introductory exhibit, two 15-person passenger elevators, a new event space and roof terrace on the fifth floor, new museum stores and improved visitor amenities.<\/p>\n
