A Carnegie Mellon University professor that made \u2018hostile and threating\u2019 posts online is \u201ccurrently on voluntary professional leave\u201d.<\/p>\n
That according to a post from CMU.<\/p>\n
The controversy started after a user on \u201cX\u201d responded to a 2021 post from Dr. Uju Anya celebrating the death of conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. <\/p>\n
The user said, \u201cweird how you only celebrate the deaths of white people. Why is that?\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Anya responded with \u201cDie first, white man, then ask yourself why I\u2019m dancing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carnegie Mellon then posted that Dr. Anya is on \u201cvoluntary professional leave from the university and is not teaching courses on our campus this academic year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The university went on to add, \u201cWe are deeply concerned by recent hostile and threatening social media posts by Dr. Anya and are reviewing this matter closely.\u201d<\/p>\n
CMU also said Dr. Anya\u2019s posts \u201care contrary to our community standards and values as well as our commitment to fostering a safe, respectful and welcoming campus community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dr. Anya has made controversial posts in the past, celebrating the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, saying that the attempted assassination of then candidate Donald Trump in 2024 was staged and called the anniversary of conservative activist Charlie Kirk\u2019s death \u201cKirkmas.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to her website, Dr. Anya is a \u201cprofessor and researcher in applied linguistics, critical sociolinguistics, and critical discourse studies primarily examining race, gender, sexual, and social class identities in new language learning through the experiences of African American students.\u201d<\/p>\n
