PITTSBURGH \u2014 A new owner has stepped up five months after Pittsburgh\u2019s oldest brewery filed for bankruptcy.<\/p>\n
The same group that owns \u201cThe Priory\u201d has bought the historic \u201cPenn Brewery.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the brewery celebrates 40 years, it\u2019s also celebrating new ownership with Eric Heinauer and John Graf.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had people coming to us saying, \u2018I\u2019d really hate to see Penn Brewery go away,\u2019 and the reality of it was, so would we,\u201d beverage industry veteran Eric Heinauer said.<\/p>\n
Penn Brewery plans to keep producing pilsners and other German-style beers at its historic building in Troy Hill.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re super excited about acquiring this iconic Pittsburgh brand,\u201d Priory Hospitality Group president and CEO John Graf said.<\/p>\n
Graf\u2019s family opened the Priory Hotel on the North Side, the same year Penn Brewery opened its doors in 1986.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s on the national registry of historic places. Now it\u2019s been revived and has created its own history. 40 years of it,\u201d Graf said. <\/p>\n
Penn Brewery filed for bankruptcy in April. At that time, the brewery\u2019s owner promised it wasn\u2019t closing, but just needed to be restructured.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really excited about reviving what\u2019s been a cornerstone of the redevelopment,\u201d Graf said.<\/p>\n
That excitement builds with the brewery\u2019s Oktoberfest slated for the next two weekends.<\/p>\n
