PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) \u2014 City officials have unveiled a new ballot drop-off location in West Philadelphia, the first of five new drop boxes set to open throughout Philadelphia ahead of the November election. <\/p>\n
Fifty days out from Election Day, Omar Sabir, chairman of the Philadelphia City Commissioners, kicked off the election season with the drop-box unveiling at Wynnefield Library, located at 54th Street and Overbrook Avenue.<\/p>\n
State Rep. Morgan Cephas said the new drop box in her district helps vulnerable voters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the work that Philadelphia is doing in this moment, not only to protect our elections but to ensure that we guarantee access to every single ZIP code, every single demographic,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In addition to 34 drop boxes already set across the city, 11 satellite election offices<\/a> are open seven days a week to help voters with registration and mail-in ballots. The other four new drop-box locations will be revealed at a later date.<\/p>\n Sabir hopes the new drop-box locations will lead to higher voter turnout.<\/p>\n \u201cLet\u2019s work together, because it\u2019s going to take a village for us to have the highest voter turnout in Philadelphia,\u201d he said. \u201cOur message is simple to the voters: Voting is safe, simple and secure, as they have always been.\u201d<\/p>\n Voters can register to receive a mail-in ballot<\/a> now.<\/p>\n
